Secretary Monita Reed was born and raised in Krotz Springs. She is a graduate of Melville High School’s class of 1973. She earned a degree in Business Administration and Data Processing from TH Harris Vocational Tech.
She has strong family ties to the Port as her cousin L.J.Ortis owned and operated a push boat company on Port property. Ms. Reed worked for Mr. Ortis from 1972 – 1983 as the office manager for the company as well as holding an officer title. Afterwards, she had a brief employment with Academy of Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, La. and then became employed with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office from 1986 – 1996 where she served as Chief Civil & Tax Deputy. It was after this that she began her over 20 year career with the Louisiana Department of Education as the Human Resources Operations Manager until her retirement in 2017.
Now she can devote herself fully to her volunteer commitments as Chairman of St. Anthony Church’s Cemetery Committee and Board Member of Krotz Springs Sportsmen’s Heritage Festival. She also has plenty of time now to spend with her many nieces and nephews who know her affectionately as “Grand Nan”.
Ms. Reed has been a Commissioner at the Port since January 1999. She has held the office of Treasurer and currently serves as the Boards Secretary.
